Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical behaviour therapy offers clients skills to manage difficult emotions and supports the clients to learn how to decrease conflict in relationships. In particularly, DBT puts a emphasis on delivering therapeutic skills in four main areas.

·      Mindfulness practice: focuses on improving an individual's ability to accept and be present in the current moment.

·      Distress tolerance: provides the client an opportunity to learn effective skills to tolerate and work through negative emotions, rather than trying to hide them.

·      Emotion regulation: focuses on approaches to recognize and modify powerful emotions that are causing life-interrupting concerns in a person’s life.

·      Interpersonal effectiveness: consists of methods that teach a person to communicate with others in a way that is assertive, maintains self-respect, with boundaries  and strengthens relationship.


 

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

When our most important relationships are not blossoming, or our general happiness and security is affected, and we might begin to cope ineffectively and make our stress higher rather than having the ability to reduce stress. Emotionally Focused Therapy provides you with skills to support you to better connect with your emotions and needs so that you can change your relationship patterns and feel more secure in the world.

Our values and beliefs as well as the way we think about and view others, the world, and ourselves overall, impacts how we behave and feel. Through the use of cognitive behavorial therapy I will work with you to help you become aware of the negative or distorted thinking patterns that generate and create additional stress. I will support you to begin to challenge these thoughts and create shifts that will help you feel more confident about yourself and your life.

If you would like to explore how your family history affects your current life, I am able to support you consider the patterns you have established as a result. As you become more aware and recognize how you may have transferred these dysfunctional patterns into your present life, I will support you to make the changes in your life that will provide internal peace and hope to be the best version of you.

 


 

Trauma Therapy

If you have a history of trauma or abuse (e.g. emotional, physical, or sexual abuse) or live with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), I provide counselling services that can help you process your traumas and decrease your suffering.
