Online Counselling and Tele-therapy

Online therapy/counselling takes place online in a virtual therapy office, where you are able to talk with Marnie face to face on your computer, tablet, or mobile device. Tele-therapy involves therapy sessions through the use of the telephone. Talking on the phone can provide anxious clients, who may not be able to come to an office setting, with a sense of privacy in their appointments. For many clients this may provide them with a greater sense of control and comfort and can serve as the first step to online counselling and/or face-to-face sessions.

Clients who prefer not to come into the office can choose between telephone and/or online counselling using an online platform. However, the online platform format is the most similar to meeting face to face. This form of counselling is convenient and a discrete substitute to in-office counselling, only it is in the privacy of your own home or office. Online counselling through an online program is becoming the therapy arrangement of choice for people with challenging and inflexible schedules or family commitments. It can be the answer when competing stresses generate obstacles that challenge your efforts to work through psychological, emotional, or interpersonal concerns such as anxiety, depression, addictions, low self-esteem, and stress. For clients trying to schedule and join regular sessions with Marnie, attending in person can add to the stress and anxiety that you may already be experiencing, as you attempt to rearrange numerous responsibilities and demands with limited time in your daily lives. Marnie can appreciate all of these challenges. Online therapy is an efficient and a potentially less stressful method of accessing valuable support and accomplishing your therapeutic goals.

Advantages of Online Counselling or Tele-therapy:

  • Eliminates the anxiety of going to an office waiting room, where some clients fear they may see people they may know.
  • Delivers convenience and privacy of having sessions in the comfort of home.
  • Creates a choice of more flexible appointment times.
  •  Increases the accessibility of psychotherapy to underserved populations (e.g., surrounding communities, the elderly, post-partum mothers, individuals who have diverse abilities), by providing sessions at home. Obstacles such as problems with mobility as a result of a disability, an injury, or an illness are removed.
  •  Saves time and money that would otherwise be spent to cover expenses such as gas, parking, or childcare.
