Your confidentiality is Marnie's priority

As a mental health professional, your confidentiality is protected in accordance to the standards of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).

Confidentiality includes not just the information within each appointment but also that the client is in therapy.

Examples of ways confidentiality is protected include:

  • Not leaving revealing information on voicemail, and seeking client permission before leaving any information at all on voicemail
  • Not admitting to outside parties that a client has an appointment – neither confirm nor deny
  • Not having any conversation with a third party about the contents of the therapy without the explicit permission of the client

Limits to confidentiality:

As a mental health professional I am required by law to set a limit to the confidentiality within the therapist/client relationship. When it is believed that a client is a threat to himself/herself or others, I must notify the person in danger or notify someone who can keep the client safe and/or others safe.
